AD – Paid Guest Post
Whether you’re running your creative biz part-time or full-time, there will be moments where you feel overwhelmed.
That the pressure of having a never-ending to-do list is looming and that it all feels too much.
If your blog is something you’re building on top of a day job, one of your main challenges is how you can manage both roles.
Time management is crucial because you don’t want to burn out.
It’s not always a comfortable journey, but the day you take your biz full-time will feel fantastic, and all the work you’re putting in will be so worth it.
So keep going!
If your blog is your full-time creative biz, then first off, congratulations!
It’s a big leap to leave your day job and your 9-5 to pursue what sets your soul on fire. It’s exciting, liberating, and at times, scary.
While it’s incredible that you’ll have complete control of your career and your level of success, it can leave you feeling overwhelmed.
So what are you to do to combat this feeling so that you don’t get stuck building your creative biz?

How to Avoid Overwhelm When Running a Creative Business
Believe in Yourself
The fact that you took that brave leap to start a creative business is an achievement in itself already.
You are actively pursuing your dreams.
You’ve said “Yes I can!” instead of staying stuck in analysis, paralysis of “Should or shouldn’t I start a blogging biz?”
Setting up your own creative business takes tenacity, courage, confidence, and a drive to succeed.
So don’t undermine yourself during those moments of self-doubt.
Your procrastination and self-doubt stem from certain limiting beliefs you need to work on, so focus on cultivating a growth and business mindset that will help you.
But you already have what it takes to run this biz, so believe in yourself.
You can do it.
You’ve already come so far!
Accept How You Feel
While you need to believe in yourself, accepting that you have these feelings of self-doubt can also help.
Acknowledge it.
Allow yourself to feel these feelings and ask yourself where are these thoughts coming from.
Do they stem from a particular belief that needs to be rewritten?
For example, there was a time when I was building my first online course where I procrastinated working on it and even stopped for a few days because I felt like an imposter.
Later on, when I dug deep, it was because I felt like I wasn’t good enough. So I worked on rewriting this limiting belief into one that says “I am good enough.”
There are also lots of other practical suggestions to help you to manage these feelings, and to help make life as a creative entrepreneur much easier.
Improve Your Time Management
Feeling overwhelmed because of all the things that need to be done within a limited time can trigger a lot of stress.
Because you work on your own, there are times when your workload can spiral out of control.
While you can only accomplish so much, effective time management is essential.
Using your time efficiently will enable you to boost your productivity and maximise the time that you do have.
Making the most of the hours you have efficiently can help you feel calmer and more in control.
Schedule in Breaks
While building your blog and creative business, you may find yourself living and breathing your work.
Running a biz can be all-consuming, and may leave you with very little free time for other areas of your life.
But remember that one of the reasons you started this creative biz is to have more freedom to travel.
So it would help if you learned how to manage time efficiently. Part of this means taking breaks.
The trouble with working continuously without a break is that you will burn out and then be even less productive. Finding a balance is crucial, no matter how much work you have to do.
Try to take a break, even if it is just a half-hour lunch break, to enable you to come back to work with a clear head and feeling energised.
Lighten Your Load and Get Help
One of the best parts of this field of entrepreneurship is that you are allowed to be creative.
However, not all tasks related to running a biz are creative, particularly the admin tasks.
And if admin tasks are something that take up most of your time and you feel are something you can outsource and have the budget for, then do so.
This will free up your time to focus on other tasks that help you build your creative biz the way you want to.
There you have it!
To recap, here are five tips on how you can avoid feeling overwhelmed when running a creative business:
- Believe in yourself
- Accept how you feel
- Improve your time management
- Schedule in breaks
- Lighten your load and get help

Accepting how you feel is incredibly important Izzy. Resisting overwhelm only creates more overwhelm. But being with these fears to move ’em along lets us develop a sense of peace and serenity about our creativity and business. Excellent post.

This has some great advice in it, thank you! It’s amazing how long the admin side of things take… just what you think will be a ten minute job but nope!
